Justice School, Wewoka, OK
I stayed in OKC and Monday morning drove to Justice School. It is a dependant K - 8 school outside of Wewoka, OK. It was an inservice day for the teachers and they had a number of things they were adressing. I had about two hours to do string with them.
We had a ball. They were ready for some relaxation and hands on stuff. We talked about the educational benifits of the string games and how it reaches so many learning styles in different ways. We did things for the youngest to the oldest kids at the school but mostly just had fun ourselves. They were great risk takers.
The Superintendant and three or four of the teachers remembered things from their childhood. There is a very high Native American representation in the staff and student body and they appreciated remembering some of the things from their childhood.
They bought things for the school and their classrooms as well as for their grandchildren. They learned many things and can teach them but also want me to return and work with the children. I am excited to return since the teachers have such a good grounding in the benifits of these activities. I am sure there will be a lot of follow through.
